Every year on 10th October, we mark World Mental Health Day — a time to reflect on how we’re really doing, to raise awareness about mental health, and to remind ourselves that none of us are alone in how we feel.

This year’s theme encourages us to think about how we care for our own mental wellbeing and how we support others. At Sea Change Therapies, we see every day how life’s challenges — whether big or small — can have a deep impact on how we think, feel, and cope.

The Importance of Talking About Mental Health

There’s been great progress in how we talk about mental health, but many people still find it difficult to reach out for support. Sometimes we worry about being a burden, or we tell ourselves that others have it worse. Yet the truth is, everyone deserves to be heard and supported — you don’t need to wait until things feel unbearable to ask for help.

Talking to someone — a friend, family member, or counsellor — can help you feel less alone and make sense of what’s happening. In counselling, we often see that real change begins the moment someone feels safe enough to say, “I’m not okay.”

From Struggle to Growth

At Sea Change Therapies, we are continually moved by the strength and resilience of the people we work with. Whether someone is coping with anxiety, low mood, grief, trauma, or a difficult life transition, the process of being heard and understood can open up space for healing and new perspectives.

As a trauma-informed, not-for-profit organisation, we’re rooted in our local community, offering accessible counselling that puts people — not profit — at the heart of what we do. Our qualified and trainee counsellors provide a calm, reflective space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, safely and without judgment.

Checking In — With Yourself and Others

World Mental Health Day is a good opportunity to slow down and check in.Ask yourself:

  • How am I feeling, really?

  • What’s been weighing on me lately?

  • What do I need right now — rest, connection, support, or simply a kind word?

And perhaps reach out to someone else too. A small message, a cup of tea, or a few minutes of genuine listening can make a huge difference.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

Mental health is part of being human — and it deserves care, attention, and compassion. By continuing to talk openly, listen without judgement, and offer understanding, we can all help reduce stigma and create a culture where support feels accessible to everyone.
