Text "Trans Rights Are Human Rights" on a flag with blue, pink, and white stripes, conveying a message of support and equality.

This week’s UK Supreme Court ruling—defining the term "woman" in the Equality Act 2010 as based on biological sex—has sent a clear and painful message to many in the transgender and non-binary communities: that their identities may not be fully recognised or protected under the law. While the decision does not remove existing protections against discrimination for trans individuals, it narrows the scope of how identity is acknowledged, particularly when it comes to single-sex spaces.

At Sea Change Therapies, we believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, respected, and safe—especially in the spaces where they go to seek healing. This ruling may affect how some institutions interpret inclusion and access, but it does not change our core values.

We are proudly committed to inclusivity, affirmation, and respect for all identities.

Trans and non-binary people already face disproportionate barriers to mental health care and often endure systemic invalidation. Decisions like this only heighten those barriers. That’s why we are doubling down on our commitment: Sea Change Therapies will always be a place where trans people are welcomed without question, affirmed in their identities, and supported in their journeys.

We recognise the pain, frustration, and fear many are feeling in the wake of this ruling. But we also see the power of community — thousands gathering in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and across the whole

country, to say, "We see you. We stand with you."

If you are trans, non-binary, or questioning, and are feeling the weight of this moment: we are here for you.

And if you're an ally wondering how to help, here are a few meaningful actions you can take:

  • Listen to trans voices and share their stories.

  • Support trans-led organisations doing critical advocacy work.

  • Speak up against transphobia—in policy, in conversation, and in your everyday life.

We know change doesn’t happen overnight, but together, we can keep pushing for a world where everyone is treated with dignity and humanity.

In solidarity, Sea Change Therapies
